“Clear goals, strong support, and innovative solutions: the Netherlands is leading the way in the development of green hydrogen.

With the recent announcement by our Minister of Climate and Green Growth, Sophie Hermans, she is positioning the Netherlands as a hydrogen hub: “the import and transit of hydrogen is providing added value, promoting market liquidity, and contributing to the financing of necessary infrastructures”.
The role of the European Commission is crucial to realizing this ambition, with the recent approval of €998 million in state aid to subsidize hydrogen production via offshore wind energy, contributing to the construction of at least 200 MW of electrolyzer capacity.
It is motivating to see that also at local level the needs of the industry are recognised by taking steps to support the development of green hydrogen, with a new round of offshore wind energy subsidies announced by Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development.
This includes a higher one-off investment subsidy of up to 80% and an earlier operating subsidy over a period of 5-10 years instead of 7-15 years, with no longer a restriction on electrolyzers up to 50 MW.
Together, with clear goals, strong support, and innovative solutions, the Netherlands is leading the way in building a more sustainable and decarbonized energy system. Let’s continue to work towards a brighter and more sustainable future for all.”
